Alice's
Adventures In Wonderland
by Lewis Carroll
When
Alice tumbles down, down, down a rabbit-hole one hot summer's
afternoon in pursuit of a White Rabbit she finds herself in Wonderland.
And there begin the fantastical adventures that will see her experiencing
extraordinary changes in size, swimming in a pool of her own tears
and attending the very maddest of tea parties. For Wonderland
is no ordinary place and the characters that populate it are quite
unlike anybody young Alice has ever met before. In this imaginary
land she encounters the savagely violent Queen, the Lachrymose
Mock Turtle, the laconic Cheshire Cat and the hookah-smoking Caterpillar,
each as surprising and outlandish as the next. Alice's adventures
have made her the stuff of legend, the child heroine par excellence,
and ensured that Carroll's book is the best loved and most widely
read in children's literature.
Review
from a grown-up kid
When
I was a kid, I would sit and watch Disney's Alice in Wonderland
over and over and over again. I loved the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire
cat and the white rabbit. But little did I know, Alice's Adventures
in Wonderland was 10 times better! Alice encounters other great
characters that I had never seen in the Disney movie.
Alice's
Adventures in Wonderland was written in 1865, well before Walt
Disney was even born, and the story has only gotten better with
time.
From
the second that Alice sees the white rabbit and goes chasing after
him, I was captivated. Even though I knew most of the story, it
didn't take away from the excitement of Alice tumbling down the
rabbit hole or waiting Alice in Wonderland to see if she would
shrink or grow from drinking the mysterious liquid in the bottle
marked 'Drink Me.'
Each
time I finished a chapter, I was frantically flipping the page
to see who Alice would meet next. Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland
is almost a collection of short stories with a new setting and
a new set of characters for every chapter. However, Alice's adventures
eventually bring all the characters together at the very end of
the book in the Queen's courtroom.
Everyone
should read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland at least once in
their life. No matter what year it is or how old you are, Alice's
adventures will never become dull. Lewis Carroll also wrote Through
the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There six years after Alice's
Adventures in Wonderland, and some of the characters from this
book also appear in the Disney movie.
